Glebe Hockey Club and Ryde Hunters Hill Hockey Club have held school holiday Hook in2 Hockey programs in recent weeks. Hook in2 Hockey is a program designed to give aspiring hockey players a go at the sport and acts as a recruitment program for new players to junior clubs. Ryde Hunters Hill held their program at Sydney Olympic Park over four days with grade players acting as coaches for the twenty 4-13 year old participants who enjoyed four sessions of fun drills followed by games at the end of each session. Meg Smith - Ryde Hunters Hill Hockey Club Junior President commented "first and foremost, everyone has fun and secondly the clinic introduces kids who have not played hockey to the sport. They may not choose to pursue hockey instantly, but they may keep it in mind in the future."
Glebe's program saw 10 junior players register for the program, most of them who had never played hockey before, all enjoying some coaching from first grade players Ian Paterson, Alister Cullen and Josie Barronn. The program was advertised through schools in early December and saw participants aged 6-11 with the parents and club get involved to experience hockey and enjoy a BBQ at the conclusion of the clinic.
All participants of the Hook in2 Hockey program enjoyed an equipment pack and showbag consisting of posters, stickers magnets and water bottles. Hook in2 Hockey clinics are planned in the coming months for North Shore WHA, Orange HA and Coffs Harbour HA.
